I am a student police officer, I have this week been on placement with Norda House for my community placement week. This week has helped me gain an insight into the issues surrounding Male domestic violence and abuse. I have met some inspirational and amazing people over my week here. The staff here do a great job and are a credit to the community. Male domestic violence and abuse needs to be more widely recognised and supported as the level of support and awareness is not the same as female victims. The team here at Norda house offer great support and facilities to their clients helping them to rebuild their lives and get back out into the community. They work closely with other organisations to provide clients with all their support needs. This can often have its challenges with resources being stretched further and further in so many public sectors. Norda house is completely charity funded and receives no government funding which can prove to have its challenges but the charity is doing a great job with the limited funding they have. Going forward I intend to take the knowledge I have gained this week back to my colleagues to raise further awareness surrounding this issue. This has been a valuable week to me developing me as a police officer and giving me awareness in areas that before I had little awareness of. I would urge anyone who can give time or donations to this charity to do so as this charity rely’s solely on this and could not function without it. It is a great resource in the community and is very limited nationwide.
