Norda House Male Refuge

Norda House supports men who have left abusive partners or family members. The refuge is a large, warm, nicely refurbished period property with high-quality accommodation for up to 5 men and their children. There is a back and front garden area, complete with bbq and a smoking shelter.

The Rooms

Norda House has five bedrooms including a self-contained annexe. All rooms are comfortably decorated and have their own vanity sink unit, TV/DVD, wardrobe, drawers, single beds, and clean linen. 2 of the bedrooms are en suite, the other 3 rooms share 2 bathrooms.

The Facilities

There is a spacious, well equipped, modern kitchen with laundry facilities. Residents have their own cupboard, fridge and freezer space. You may be supplied with emergency basic food supplies, toiletries and spare clothing on arrival. The bathrooms have showers. There are comfortable lounge and living spaces, complete with TV/DVD, music station, dining area and chill-out space.

The Support

Upon arrival you will be met by the staff, shown your bedroom, made welcome and helped to complete necessary paperwork.

Through regular key work sessions, we will work with you to identify issues and remedies and create action plans. We will support you to access welfare benefits, housing and health care, and legal advice should you need it.

Counselling referrals will be offered to all residents. We refer to our partner project “WAVES” a confidential counselling and outreach service provided by specialist trained counsellors for anyone who has experienced any form of domestic violence/abuse.

Our project aims to enable people to make positive changes in their lives.

Our team consists of a manager, support workers and resettlement workers. All staff have extensive experience of working with male victims of domestic abuse and treat all individuals with respect.

The refuge is staffed Monday – Friday 9am-5.30pm and we operate an open office door policy. Out of hours we are covered by helpline/offsite staff, including weekends. There is always someone available to help.

The Local Area

The Refuge has good public transport links and local amenities including schools, shops, GP surgeries, housing offices, banks, places of worship, Drug & Alcohol Services and solicitors.
