The YMCA in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough has started new ways of teaching young people to spot the signs of abusive relationships.
The project, called Respect, is now open for referrals from all agencies and services that either work with, or come into contact with, young people displaying signs of being affected by domestic abuse.
Besides working with victims, Respect also wants to work with abusers – to help them find better ways of treating the people they care about.
Project manager Clare Taylor told Heart: “Our programme seeks to allow young people to explore their feelings, better understand the concepts of respect and consent, and build on their individual strengths.
“The programme is not just for those who experience intimate relationship abuse, but also offers separate support groups for those affected by other forms of domestic abuse such as adolescent to parent violence.”
Respect is a six-week programme for young people who are aged 16 to 25, and live in Cambridgeshire or Peterborough.
There will also be workshops available for schools.
