The team at Specsavers in Pudsey has devoted the month of April to raising money for a charity that offers help to men suffering from domestic abuse.
Chocolate hamper up for grabs
Visitors to the store are invited to pay £1 for a strip of raffle tickets, to be in with a chance of winning a chocolate hamper.
All proceeds will go to the Norda House Project, which provides a safe haven for men who are trapped in abusive relationships. Men who stay at the Norda House refuge will receive counselling and emotional support alongside help with the practicalities of moving on.
Charity of the month
Each month, a different member of the Pudsey Specsavers team is asked to nominate a charity to benefit from in store fundraising efforts.
The Norda House Project was chosen by optical assistant Simon Axtell, a former counsellor, who has worked with male victims of domestic abuse in the past.
Male domestic violence on the up
Speaking about the project, Simon said:
“People still think of domestic violence as something which happens to women, but it’s not, men experience it too and it’s on the increase.
I’m so pleased that we’re able to offer our support to the Norda House Project this month and in doing so, help to raise awareness of the male victims of domestic violence. I hope that our loyal customers will get behind us and help us raise as much money as we can for such a worthy cause.”
